Freezing, Frozen, and Family

"Do you wanna Build a snowman, come on lets go and play!" -Frozen

Hey Everyone!

Well, the ice is finally starting to melt and we were able to get out of our house this week. Hallelujah! We were starting to go a little crazy!

A few weeks ago my family went and saw Frozen the disney movie, and it was seriously one of the best cartoons I've seen in a long time! The basis of the movie is kind of given away by the title, the whole village in turned into a frozen over winter wonderland in the middle of summer, and the movie is about how to fix it and make summer come back. Well here in Indiana we have had our own version of Frozen lately and it has actually been pretty amazing. We have had so much snow its not even funny and then to add to that the snow froze over when the thermometer went from 30 to -12 overnight. It was so cold that when i turned my phone on it would actually say the weather is too cold to use phone and turn off.. When your PHONE says its too cold you KNOW its cold!

Like I said though it has finally been starting to warm up and we are all the way at 40 degrees today.

YAY!

Since it was starting to be warm enough for us to even think about going outside, Saturday my family decided to go to the beach. YES we went to the beach in the middle of January, because that's normal right? ...k maybe that's just my family. The lake had frozen over, because of the crazy below 0 weather we have had and the ice was amazing! we realized as we were walking towards the lighthouse that we weren't looking at beach anymore, we were standing in the middle of the lake! The ice was at least four feet thick and the water had kept pushing it towards the shore which then made the ice pile on top of itself forming huge ice mountains in the middle of the water! You couldn't even see where the water actually started until we were all the way by the lighthouse and looked way out in the distance you could just start to see the ice end and the water begin.

It was amazing to see God's creation all frozen over as we walked. We found shells frozen inside the ice walls, and watched as pieces of ice would break off and float away. We could pick up ice balls bigger than my head and throw them and watch them shatter on the ice way out on the lake. it was incredible!
As much as this winter has been over whelming and I'm sure we will all be happy when it's gone, its been pretty amazing! I mean how often does the temperature drop to -12 in Indiana?!? That's pretty crazy. A lot of what we get to see because of the crazy weather is a once in a lifetime thing. We might never get to see mountains of ice on lake Michigan ever again, but it was awesome to be able to be a part of it and capture it on my camera while it was here :)

Maggie Taking front and center as always

I hope everyone is enjoying this cold weather as much as I am!
Try to have a warm day guys! ;)
